I was there, promise. I was able to attend the Philippine Business and Economic Forum, though I was 2 hours late. Was caught in a traffic jam, so much as I want to share all the juicy details of the said event, I only caught a good half of the second speaker. This is what I heard to be good places to put your money :
- Consumer sector – Puregold, Tanduay
- Mining – Benguet
There are other sectors / stocks mentioned, but only the three jumped at me. Now, I believe these stocks are mentioned as “growth investments”, so the timeframe expected for when it will be profitable need to be considered when investing.
In an earlier post, I said that I intend to look at Philippine stocks. Now, I am nearly chickening out 🙂 This is because I have a list of prequisites for investing/trading and it could be hard task to find stocks that would let me satisfy those pre-requisites. Remember PRING Investing? I discussed in my book “High Heeled Traders”, that my investment should give me:
1. Protection
2. Income
3. Growth
PSE currently only allow straight buy and sell transaction, short selling is not a doable strategy, so the protection component is missing. Fortunately, from the “economic readings” on the Philippines, it was said that stocks will keep going on an uptrend, so ideally, just keep on buying low and selling high.
The more “technical” considerations for me, I’ve discussed in the chapter in the book “What to Trade : A Mom’s Guide”. I talked about weighing :
- Opportunity – this is where you consider the liquidity (how easy it is to get in and out), whether the stock follows the market, and low risk enough for you to get into.
- Lifestyle – here you need to consider whether it is suited to your timeframe to trade, you have interest in the company/sector, and whether it protects rising lifestyle costs.
- Capital – can you afford a good number of the shares that will be make your trading a profitable exercise.
Now, just to whet your appetite a little bit, here’s a few companies that I found in the Most Active list in the PSE (as of Friday). I consider those that changed between 2% to 5% “potential candidates” to trade, and that the move is positive (it gained in price) in line with the global market moves of that day. The information on Volume being traded is your indicator of liquidity which factors into your opportunity. Heard of :
PLDT
Petron
BDO
Ayala Corp
Ayala Land
Metro Pacific
Metro Bank
Philex
Nihao Mineral
BPI
San Miguel
I know what you’re thinking. You’ve heard of these companies and they have been making money from you. So why not make money from them?
Why should they have all the fun?
