High Heeled Traders

Driving and Trading

June 9, 2012

It’s OK. Laugh. I am one of those few people out there in their late 30’s who still don’t know how to drive.  When I am on my own, I am perfectly fine to walk, take public transport, get a taxi here in Sydney.  However, my 7 year old daughter tells me, I should drive so I can bring them to swimming class, (their dad is the designated driver), because she really wants me to see how good she is at swimming.  OK, so that challenge has been there but I have been busy looking after babies, refining my trading, writing my book that I haven’t gotten around to it.  Now,  I have new reasons to dive in (and face my fear)  with the added task of promoting my book overseas — where possibly, I haven’t got much option but to drive myself!

So it is a big comfort to find a blog post about driving and trading by  one of the brilliant trader-teachers of Van Tharp Institute,  Ken Long, (properly addressed as Lt. Col. Ken Long Ph.D  but he is so cool he doesn’t mind formalities).   Big comfort because, I’ve already done the hard yards on trading, and psychologically, I already have the appreciation of risks in the markets that I can use on the road.   One of the striking points he made was about the other drivers (or traders out there) — that half of them, are below average. “Some of them are also drunk, crazy, stupid, preoccupied, unstable, distracted and some are about to suffer a heart attack.”   Yes,  sad, they should not be driving but they are out there giving grief to the rest who are skilled, and equipped for the challenge.   And here I am, reminded, that we should strive not to be one of them! 🙂  So I share to you the best way to start a trading business with my book  “High Heeled Traders”.
