High Heeled Traders

Right, another (bright!) red day and I see people either talking about their losses, or asking whether to “buy” given the obviously beaten down stockprices. I’m probably too engrossed with the kids these days as we prepare for travelling, I am schooling them via “distance education” and they have lots of online resources, I’d say I am getting comfy with “instructions by cartoons” approach, and I’ve picked up a great clue from this video of “Despicable Me2”

Watch:

And in case you missed the point : Learn from a villain how to fight another villain. So in our case, learn how big market players do this business. (And to further clarify I don’t mean to say they are villains – but most people could give them that role in the bloodbath that has been happening). After all, the people hurting the most are individual or retail, mom and pop, small investors. Some are even asking me pointed questions about whether we are still in a bull run, or whether they should hold. Instead of giving you hope, you know, I thought, for the people who are committed to invest for their life goals, I’d give you the opportunity to learn and actually make the decision and analysis for yourself. I thought, I’ll assist you to have 3 critical learnings:
1. have a system
2. learn the market dynamics
3. have a comprehensive business plan

Those 3 will ensure the investor is well-equipped to do business in the stockmarket (with the interconnected financial markets). I encourage everyone to learn the most they can from what is happening in the markets, not just to ask questions or ask for tips, — remember its not the gurus who will be affected by your decision — the investor has to do their own homework, and true the prices are so cheap now, so you could consider them as “sale” prices — but the market will be volatile, so it is up to the investor how much risk he / she can tolerate and what is the exit strategy (which is part of the item 1 – System).

The volatility is part of a changing financial markets. So it’s going to be rough sailing for a while. Keep afloat.

“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change.”
– Charles Darwin

Bulls Beaten By Bears?

June 12, 2013

It’s already seemingly years that we are on a downtrend, but I clearly remember the record highs being achieved till mid May, until the selloffs started end of that month and then, bloodbath, we’re not even halfway to end of June. It’s been news upon news of slow growth, stimulus tapering and I even found some articles / videos talking about Recession. I’m like, wait a minute!!! Before people say the bull run is over (especially the “best performing” stockmarkets Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand), I want to tell you about what I noticed over the years. First of all, China, which, people can argue is leading the world economically — they were worried that in years past with 10% growth annually, China will “overheat”, but now with 7.5% – they think it’s slow!!! There were some very interesting data provided in the news below, but one thing is clear: Always better to do your analysis (news articles are late!!!) and draw your own conclusions.

Remember that the market is very dynamic and key is understanding the market players and also the structure in which the financial market is built. It is true, we are “individuals” investing in the stockmarket, but not to forget that it is an open market and in this business our competition is world-class. I discuss the market dynamics in my webinars and there’s more info here.

Slow Growth, OK?

June 11, 2013

Normally, governments would like to see robust growth. But not in China, apparently. I found this video (below) from Bloomberg on what is happening to China, where the government is supportive (VERY important) and where we can continue to be investing. It also cites structural reforms which is probably why the slow growth is necessary… if the turtle always wins, then is slow growth in China OK?

On a side note… the US was given a credit upgrade of sorts — from AA negative to stable. Real and continuing growth on the way it seems… and with the recent reaction from the stockmarkets, they do seem to favor the “slow” growth and keeping the stimulus in place (but to be honest the “will/will not” suspense is getting unbearable!)…

What will this changing landscape and volatility mean for your investments? How to ensure your profits are preserved and being in the market at the right time? I will be tackling this and more market dynamics in the next Retirement Investing webinar. Sign up here

Lower and Lower?

June 6, 2013

I was reviewing some of my posts 2 weeks ago when I was saying I couldn’t believe the market is still going higher and higher. Now that the markets are going lower and lower, ahhhhh no… I can’t say I can’t believe it is going lower and lower. I see some stocks bucking the trend, starting to separate from the slaughter. Now this is interesting and I have taken a position in one of the stocks I am following, BHP. I got in because as the US market fell heavily, the stock only fell a little, much less than its average daily moves (or volatility). It was also registering increasing number of buyers from the morning till after lunch when I entered my position. So in this trade I looked out for three things :
1. Volatility – low
2. Volume – increasing
3. Confirmation – it’s up from the lowest point

There are a few other points in the market dynamics, but those 3 are the critical points I considered.

Could you do the same? You must have heard if there is a time to look for bargains, this is it. But if you are new to this, remember that it could still go up or down until the end of the quarter.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions too about the direction of the markets. Some of them, upon hearing my answer say they are soothe with my words. They get some confidence that all is not lost. But wouldn’t it be nice if instead of being confident because of what I say, you are confident because you yourself know what you are doing? Instead of “paper loss” you have actually pocketed your profits. It makes a world of difference. Really.

So if you really want to make good for yourself, knowing that you are playing against worldclass competition in the stockmarket, make that difference by attending the webinars I’ve scheduled for June at this link.

A Piece of the Puzzle

June 4, 2013

I didn’t want to do this, but I see a lot of postings in various social media groups / fora asking “why” is the selloff happening in places where we are having bull runs even those with strong growth – Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, then the developed economies of USA, Australia, South Korea etc. “I didn’t want to do this” in the sense that I want to encourage a comprehensive study and structured approach to investing / trading that’s why I point to webinars and business plans that I make available here — because this is a business. Big business in fact.

The thing that gets to me, that I feel I should answer, is when people regard what has happened as something “unexplainable”, or “no one knows for sure”.

I know people mean well when they give advice (and comfort) to either
1) hang on to losses since they are only “paper losses”
or
2) say it’s time to “average down” and “invest for the long term”

Don’t ask me which is better! 🙂 I know those losses hurt. Whereas, you could have taken profits at the hint of a selloff.

So OK, in the webinars and workshops, we discuss with “discovery exercises”, but in this space hopefully it would drive home the point of what I keep saying in my book and touched on more than a few times here in the blog that “it’s not just the stock picks”, that it is important to know what the market is doing. That as investors we need to understand the dynamics, players in the market, what assets move in which ways, the interrelatedness of it all. You know how I like shoes, and my favorite way to explain this is — go and look outside, what is the weather like? We buy and wear shoes according to the conditions. In the summer, sandals are popular, to keep cool. Would you wear it still during cold (i.e. freezing) and wet winters, absolutely not! You got to change to something that could protect you and actually keep you functioning.
So in investing and trading, you have to have an idea of what the market is doing. You need to determine market condition before deciding on action or strategy,  or if you are   “the show must go on” girl like me, I’d give myself choices. In fact, I bring foldable ballet flats I keep in my bag when I wear my high heels.  I change shoes when I want to.   🙂

Now who wants to have a closer look at this thing we call the MARKET… We discuss all these items  in-depth at the webinars / workshops,   there is more but these are the big-ticket items that I like to follow… and lately,  I observed, there are signs pointing to reversals …

______________________________________________________________________________________________

The earliest and most jolting of which is the spectacular fall in gold a month or so ago…
Now, you can go back to whoever told you “no one can explain” and tell them a thing or two from this blog, or better yet, make and keep those profits.

Top Money Man Speaks

June 4, 2013

While watching out for new trading opportunity, I found this video of Ben Bernanke, US Federal Reserve Chairman and since he’s the “central banker of central bankers” I thought I should share what he had to say. He didn’t discuss the market but I think there’s plenty to pick up from all that he said. Enjoy!

Selloff Story

June 3, 2013

Hope your weekend has been relaxing, because it’s time to face the markets again. Yes, there were selloffs last week that could still weigh on our minds, so I think this video will be very helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed the discussion, bobbing my head up and down. They talked about technicals, some seasonal tendencies and big money moves that we all should pay attention to — and I hope newbies get to the point of understanding them so next time this happens, it will be a more enjoyable ride!

Just want to share this video from Washington Post about what fund manager Paul Tudor Jones says about female traders, especially mothers!
I’m stunned about how wrong he is… he certainly does not know about being a mother, and I have doubt about his expertise in trading in the world today.
I am a “small fry” in this ocean but let’s cite the Japanese housewives who are a force rocking the Forex markets. Check out this article:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-05-29/japanese-housewives-cooling-on-aussie-uridashi.html

But I think among what he says, I agree that there won’t be a lot of women in the financial firms — because trader moms and the likes of female investors would happily trade for our own benefit and (wisely) care for our children and stay home, in control of our own business.

I Saw The Sign

May 31, 2013

I don’t know if you noticed, the “bad news” is “good news” in the US. Stocks rose in the US after GDP 2.4 came a teeny-weeny point off the target 2.5 and that gave “relief” the stockmarket will remain supported in the US. It is interesting because this sort of news is not really something to be normally upbeat about, but in the the case of the stockmarket, well, it is! A lot of investors I know have gotten good profits from picking stocks, but the market dynamics is forgotten (or not known). Good investors would have seen the sign. I saw the sign, and immediately, I took the opportunity to exit and now in cash position.

(Ladies…) Compare this to “men” or your next relationship. You know when something good or bad is about to follow. You’d say “that’s a sign”. Yes, we know all about the sign!!! We look for signs!!!
So, with money, yes, there are signs … pointing the way things would go!

So the only way I know to help you get this straight, and actually profit from such market dynamics is to offer the webinars
“Retirement Investing” and “Bull Run Investing” so you can get ready for the next opportunities the market offers.

Up! No Matter What…

May 30, 2013

Like what I said the other day, money is moving a bit differently these days. It reminded me to check up on my retirement account to see how it has been doing since it is critical that it goes up no matter what happens.
Here’s what it is looking like right now…

It’s going up and I’m happy that it is working according to plan.

5 year Retirement Account

So two things :
1. What is your plan?
2. How are you executing it – making it work?

These are 2 seemingly simple questions but that requires a lot of study and discipline to undertake. I have offered REtirement Investing webinars and provided a Business Plan to all my attendees so that they will be guided accordingly. If you are committed to your retirement you need to know what is working right now for you and what you need to improve on. I’m going to offer the Retirement Investing and I will incorporate the Bull Run Investing webinar in June. Don’t waste anymore of the market opportunities and most importantly your hard-earned money and precious time! Learn to invest effectively with low-risk and high reward, email me with your interest at charmel@highheeledtraders.com
